Bullying led to their dissolution.
One of the worst cases of bullying in K-Pop probably took place in the 1990s and involved the first generation mixed group, S#arp.
Sharpstylized as S#arp, it is best remembered as a four-member mixed group consisting of Seo Jiyoung, Jang Suk Hyun, ChrisAND Lee Jihyealthough they have undergone multiple lineup changes.
The group was popular, but problems between Seo Jiyoung and Lee Jihye would change things.
Lee Jihye was added to the group through auditions based on her talent, and Seo Jiyoung’s jealousy is said to have caused the initial problems between the two. When it became clear that Lee Jihye would not be removed from the group, Seo Jiyoung began physically harassing her.
According to Lee Jihye, Seo Jiyoung allegedly attacked and abused her physically and verbally almost every day and was even alleged to have invited her then-boyfriend, an actor. Ryu Si wonto slap and scold Lee Jihye too.
An accident in an elevator during a music show resulted in a fight between the two and a chaotic press conference that ended the group.
Now, more than 15 years after their last time together on camera, Seo Jiyoung AND Lee Jihye they reunited.
In a recent YouTube video, the couple discussed their past, openly admitting to the “alleged” discord.
She was a very close friend who shared a significant chapter in my life, and although there was a brief pause in our friendship, we became close again.
— Lee Jihye introduces Seo Jiyoung
Seo Jiyoung opened up about her life outside the spotlight, which includes two children. After Lee Jihye said she hoped there would be no more references to discord between the members due to the video, Seo Jiyoung remarked, “Well, it was true, but…” but he said it had been a long time.
Lee Jihye agrees, saying that “It’s been too long. It’s boring now.“
The two celebrated the occasion by taking selfies together, proving they had long since buried the hatchet.
