On October 16, a highlight screening and press conference for TVING’s drama “Love in the Big City” was held at CGV Yongsan I’Park mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by directors Hur Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyum, Kim Se-in, writer Park Sang-young and actors Nam Yoon-su, Oh Hyun-kyung, Kwon Hyuk, Na Hyun-woo, Jin Ho-eun and Kim Won-joong.
“Love in the Big City” follows writer Go Young (played by Nam Yoon-su)’s 10-year journey to discover life and love through thick and thin. The series adopts a Hollywood system of variable direction for each episode, with Hur Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyum and Kim Se-in directing four episodes, with each director handling two episodes of 50 minutes each. The screenplay was written by Park Sang-young, the author of the original novel.
The work faced backlash from some conservative groups due to its depiction of homosexuality.
In this regard, Park Sang-young conveyed a positive mentality: “I posted on SNS out of frustration, but I thought, “How much are they trying to publicize our work?” It’s Lucky Vicky, right? Don’t successful works spark controversy?“
Nam Yoon-su said he doesn’t pay attention to the negative reactions from some groups. He noted: “When hateful comments come, I simply stifle them. Instead, I get a lot of messages of support. I wake up to about 100 of them every morning.”
He added: “I think there has been a change in the last few days. People’s thinking is changing and I believe that a path has opened up for us to follow. It excites me. I realized that our society is becoming more open.“
Meanwhile, “Love in the Big City” will premiere on October 21.
