Park Won-sook asked Goo Hye-sun about her studies, to which she replied, “I graduated in Cinema Studies. I originally signed up in 2011, but couldn’t continue due to my acting career. I re-enrolled in 2020 and graduated in 2024.“When asked what universities she attended, Goo explained:”I graduated from Sungkyunkwan University and am now enrolled in graduate school at KAIST. I didn’t like studying when I was younger, but now I find it fun.“
He also revealed his academic goals, saying, “I am now pursuing a master’s degree and plan to move on to a PhD. My parents always encouraged me to continue studying.“
In response to questions about his debut, Goo recalled: “I debuted when I was 19. Initially I didn’t want to be an actress: I started as an idol apprentice, but I couldn’t sing or dance well. The president of the company asked me if I wanted to try acting, and that’s how it started. The choice was immediate when I met the producer of Nonstop at the entrance of the broadcasting station.He continued to achieve success, starring in several leading roles. Goo noted that his success came with drama Hearts of nineteenwhich achieved a viewership rating of 42% and opened many doors for her.
Despite his success, Goo made it clear that he hasn’t stopped acting, explaining: “I still act in my films when my funds are not enough. I have made five short films and three feature films, all written by me. Although none of them were commercial successes, I consider myself a filmmaker on the rise.“In addition to his work as a director, he also composes music, further showcasing his diverse talents.”Cinema is a complete art,” he explained. “You have to study painting, acting and music, that’s why I’m so focused on my studies.“
Goo also reflected on a health issue while filming the popular drama Boys over the flowerswhere she played the role of a swimmer. While practicing a diving scene, he hit his head on the bottom of the pool, suffering a concussion. “Afterwards I had nausea for three or four days,” he said, recalling the difficult period.
The challenges don’t end there. Towards the end of Boys over the flowers shoot, Goo was involved in a serious car accident. “My face was badly injured and there was a lot of blood,” he revealed. The accident was so bad that his car was destroyed and the show had to delay its broadcast. Despite this, Goo felt he could not afford to miss more than two episodes and continued filming, even though he could barely speak due to his injuries. “I simply acted using facial expressions,” she said, shocking the audience with her determination and resilience.
During the interview, Goo Hye-sun demonstrated her passion for both acting and directing, as well as her dedication to continuous learning and growth, despite the many difficulties she has faced in her career.
