Did HYBE and Belift Lab Lie About NewJeans CCTV Data?

On October 8, a topic questioning HYBE and Belift Lab’s claims about CCTV data was posted on the Korean forum “theqoo,” attracting considerable attention.

Previously, HYBE & Belift Lab released an official statement regarding the case of the ILLIT manager who allegedly told members to ignore NewJeans’ Hanni, in which he stated that the CCTV cameras in the HYBE building are only kept for 30 days.

However, the topic suspected that HYBE and Belift Lab had lied about this 30-day period and pointed out “evidence” that may prove otherwise.

In particular, the chronology of the event is summarized as follows:

  • On March 31: NewJeans’ parents sent an email to HYBE, recounting how Bang Si-Hyuk repeatedly ignored NewJeans when he met them in the elevator. This implies that the incident where Bang Si-Hyuk did not recognize NewJeans occurred before March 31st.
  • On May 13: The NewJeans parents’ email was leaked to the media.
  • On May 14: Dispatch began verifying the story by examining CCTV footage. The cable confirmed that Bang Si-Hyuk did indeed not recognize the NewJeans members when they passed each other in the elevator.

The question arises: if the building’s CCTV data is automatically deleted after 30 days and cannot be restored, why did HYBE still have CCTV footage from before 31 March to show Dispatch on 14 May, i.e. 45 days later?

This has raised suspicions that Belift Lab may have lied in their statement about automatically deleting CCTV after 30 days, especially regarding their failure to verify whether ILLIT’s manager told the girl group to ignore NewJeans’ Hanni.

Below are some comments from netizens regarding these speculations:

  • All statements by HYBE may be refuted by other statements made by HYBE itself
  • Well, I don’t believe HYBE’s claim because it’s all a lie anyway
  • There’s no way a building that size doesn’t have a CCTV backup server…
  • HYBE fans all apologize that the CCTV storage period is 30 days, but then what the hell is this?
  • Ah, HYBE gets caught red-handed, once again
