If there is one thing to pain leading actress Youn Yuh Jung she likes to do things in her free time, to have her future predicted. But there was not a single fortune teller who could have guessed what happened to her in 2021.
In the latest video uploaded about the actress Choi Hwa Jung‘S YouTube channel, Youn raided his bag in a quick and casual “What’s in my bag?” session. Among the usual belongings, such as cash and toiletries, Youn took out a few pieces of paper folded in half. Referring to it as “someone’s luck”, Youn revealed that she liked going to fortune tellers.
Choi then pointed out that although Youn enjoys fortune telling and tarot reading, no fortune teller saw his stunning Oscar win in April 2021. In fact, the director Kim Cho Hee he explained that several fortune tellers had said that something completely opposite would happen.

According to Kim, three different fortune tellers warned that something terrible would happen to Youn’s health. A fortune teller, which Youn was referring to “Cheongju Grandpa”, he said Youn would really do it “die” at 75 years old.
Kim recalled feeling terrified upon hearing the fortune. He would contact Youn who was in Canada filming the K-Drama Pachinko at that time, checking to make sure nothing bad happened to her.
Choi Hwa Jung: Ms. Youn likes tarot readings, fortune telling and whatnot. But there was not a single fortune teller who imagined that he would win such a big prize at his age.
Youn Yuh Jung: Not even one.
Kim Cho Hee: A fortune teller told me she was supposed to die at 75, the same year she won the Oscars.
You: Right! That’s why he called me day and night. I was in Canada shooting Pachinko. I wondered what was wrong with her, but I told her, “Yes, I’m fine and I’m alive.” Later he told me what he had heard. Three fortune tellers said that something terrible would happen to me, health-wise. In fact, one grandfather, Grandfather Cheongju, told her that I would die! So she was terrified.
Now 77 and still very much alive, Youn looked back and said the fortune tellers had probably seen him “something big” happen, but without knowing too much about the Academy Awards, they “interpreted it as a life-threatening event.”
[After the win]I told Kim, “Do you remember when Grandpa told you I was going to die?” He said, “What would a grandfather from Cheongju know about the Academy Awards?” He probably saw something huge planned for you in 2021. But, given your age, he interpreted it as a life-threatening event. Hence, death.”

In April 2021, Youn became the first Korean actress to win an acting award at the Academy Awards. She won the “Best Supporting Actress” award for her outstanding performance as the most unique Korean halmoni (grandmother), Soon Ja, in to pain.
