NewJeans achieves double platinum certification in Japan

THE Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) announced its latest cycle of official certifications, and New Jeans leads the pack with an impressive double platinum certification for their hit single “OH MY GOD”!

NewJeans’ “OMG” Achieves Double Platinum Certification for Streaming in Japan

In 2020, the RIAJ introduced a certification system specifically for online streaming, adding to its existing systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. Under this system, songs are certified silver at 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, platinum at 100 million streams, and double platinum at 200 million streams.

NewJeans has achieved two important milestones in this latest round of certifications. Their hit single of 2023 “OH MY GOD” achieved double platinum status after surpassing 200 million streams in Japan. Additionally, their debut song “Attention” was certified platinum for reaching 100 million streams. This marks another significant achievement for the emerging girl group, cementing their popularity in Japan.

These certifications come just a few months after NewJeans achieved platinum status for two other singles: their pre-release track “Super Shy” and the title track “ETA” from their 2023 mini album “Get Up.” Both songs have surpassed 100 million streams, demonstrating the group’s strong presence in the global K-pop scene.

In addition to NewJeans, BTS’ Jungkook also achieved platinum certification for his debut solo track “Seven” (with Latto)which reached 100 million streams in Japan. BTS themselves have achieved Gold certification for two of their B-sides, “Dimple” AND “Dionysus”, both have surpassed 50 million streams.

Additional songs that received Gold certification this month include aespa’s “Girls,” the Japanese version of BIGBANG’s G-Dragon’s solo hit “Crooked,” and LE SSERAFIM’s “EASY.” Needless to say, it’s a great time for K-pop artists as Japanese fans continue to stream their tracks.

NewJeans and BTS’s continued success in Japan highlights their powerful fan base and K-pop’s continued global influence. Congratulations to all the artists who received certifications this month!
