On September 26, the Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) released an official statement regarding the sudden cancellation of N.Flying’s Yoo Hwe Seung’s long-awaited congratulatory performance. The announcement followed disappointment from fans who had been eagerly awaiting his on-stage performance at the 2024 awards ceremony.
The SDA committee clarified the situation with its statement: “We apologize that N.Flying’s Yoo Hwe Seung was unable to perform at the 2024 Seoul International Drama Awards ceremony on September 25. Due to unforeseen delays at the venue during the live broadcast, the show could not take place after the first part of the ceremony.” The apology extended both to the artist, who had prepared extensively, and to the fans and spectators who were eagerly awaiting the show.
Recognizing the frustration caused, the SDA committee expressed regret at the situation, stating: “We sincerely apologize to the artists who worked hard to prepare a great performance, as well as to the fans and spectators who were enthusiastic about the show.” They also reassured everyone that measures will be put in place to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future: “Immediately after the live broadcast, we sincerely apologized to the artist and assured him that this will not happen again. The organizing committee promises to prepare more thoroughly and do everything possible to ensure that this does not happen in the future.”
The sudden announcement
Initially, the SDA had proudly announced the performance of popular artists ZEROBASEONE, NMIXX and Yoo Hwe Seung of N.Flying. During the live broadcast, however, only NMIXX’s opening act and ZEROBASEONE’s closing performance were broadcast for the first part of the ceremony. Fans were left wondering what Yoo Hwe Seung’s performance was, as it didn’t happen, despite reports that the artist was waiting in the wings.
On the day of the event, the official N.Flying account released a statement to their fans, sharing the disappointing news: “We regret to inform you that the SBS ‘Seoul International Drama Awards 2024’ congratulatory show scheduled for today has been canceled due to delays at the venue.” The group expressed their apologies to their fans, acknowledging the great anticipation for Yoo Hwe Seung’s performance, and kindly asked for their understanding.
This sudden change of plans left fans disappointed, but they continue to support Yoo Hwe Seung, appreciating the effort and preparation he put into the show which, unfortunately, did not take place. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges of live events, while the SDA committee vows to improve its future operations to avoid similar setbacks.
