Netizens have started an online discussion regarding ILLIT’s new teaser for their upcoming comeback. In the post, netizens speculated that the group must have undergone changes in their concept, and linked it to the previous plagiarism accusations during their debut.
On September 24, K-netz started a community thread titled “After the controversy, ILLIT’s concept has been completely changed.” The post featured several screenshots from the teaser for ILLIT’s “I’LL LIKE YOU” brand film.
In early 2024, BELIFT LAB and HYBE received plagiarism accusations due to the similarities between ILLIT and NewJeans in aesthetics and music.
The claims were also mentioned by Min Hee Jin in her viral press conference in April, sparking debate in the K-pop community and prolonging the feud between ADOR and HYBE.
The trailer for ILLIT has sparked speculation among Internet users, who have been closely following the changes in the concept of ILLIT following the accusations.
In the comments, K-netz mentioned how HYBE used Japanese elements in the trailer, while some said that the teaser had “SM vibes”. Others also commented that the changes during comebacks were normal.
Read their reactions below:
- “It seems that HYBE is really into Japan lately: from the props to the Japanese books, to the subtitles, everything is Japanese.”
- “This gives me SM vibes. Are they still recruiting their staff?”
- “They really love Japan.”
- “Rather than NewJeans, it looks like a copy of Red Velvet.”
- “I see some f(x).”
- “Every time you come back, you should change your concept, right?”
