While most were excited about his fan name…
…received a fierce backlash from Korean netizens because RUBY was the name of the K-Pop solo artist’s fandom Kwon Eun-Bi.
Korean netizens were disappointed that they didn’t do a simple search to see if the fandom name was already in use before making an announcement.
- “They need to change that. Is it so hard to do a quick search? Why are entertainment companies so lazy?”
- “It’s already in use. It’s not fair. Kwon Eun Bi’s fans have the right to be angry, and she’s active too. Didn’t they check first?”
- “The name of Ah Kwon Eun Bi’s fanclub is RUBI.”
- “It’s even stranger that a name like Ruby hasn’t already been used as a fandom name.”
- “It’s the same name as another solo artist’s fandom. It’s so disrespectful, and they’re just trying to get away with it based on clout.”
- “They have to change it. What kind of morality is this?”
- “He even set a timer for the announcement and the name overlaps with another artist’s.”
- “I often see a lack of morale in the K-Pop idol industry.”
- “She doesn’t have anyone working with her? She decided on it herself and published it?”
- “I jumped into the thread thinking she was okay with the name, but since it’s already in use, she needs to change it.”
- “Maybe you should change it to Jane, even though it sounds a bit like Tarzan.”
- “But doesn’t it look like it’s already been used? They didn’t even search it.”
- “Change it.”
- “They need to change it. Ruby or Rubies, you can see another artist currently active is using it.”
- “Change it.”
- “She has a company, why doesn’t she do her job?”
- “Jennie used it first, why change it? Ruby and Rubies are different.”
- “Why are there so many people working without doing any research?”
Jennie’s agency has not yet commented on the matter.
