Recently, BTS fans (also known as ARMY), especially international ones, started using the hashtag “Min Hee-jin Out” following Jungkook’s update that supposedly showed support for NewJeans.
Since then, the hashtag has reached quite significant numbers, eventually catching the attention of HYBE employees.
This is evidenced by an employee update on Blind, an employee community that requires corporate email verification.
In particular, one employee wrote, “Today, a 6-month-old cancer was removed from Army Silt,” drawing support from HYBE colleagues.
The above statement, which roughly translates to “ARMY hashtag removed the cancer I had for the past 6 months,” included the pun “암이 내려가,” which essentially turned “아미” (ARMY) into “암이” (cancer).
Basically, HYBE employees are associating the name of the BTS fandom with a disease, all for the sake of wordplay.
Such an action has therefore attracted considerable criticism from Internet users,
Here are some comments from Internet users:
- Wow, now they refer to fans as cancer
- HYBE specifically hires bullies to work for the company, why? What is it?
- HYBE is the cancer of K-pop
- The very existence of HYBE is wrong
- What the hell is going on at that company? Why are the employees so toxic?
- Every time I see HYBE employees, I am amazed at how much they are at one with the company.
