Kim Woo-bin was told he had only 6 months to live, but he still beat cancer

Actor Kim Woo-bin recently shared his journey to overcome nasopharyngeal cancer with a positive attitude, revealing that even after being told he only had “6 months to live,” he never doubted his ability to recover.

Kim Woo-bin and Kim Sung-kyun, the main actors of the Netflix original film “Officer Black Belt,” appeared as guests on Shin Dong-yup’s show “Salty Brother” on the 16th.

“Salty Brother” is a web variety show based on the concept of a drinking den, and Kim Woo-bin, who has been battling nasopharyngeal cancer since 2017, showed his concern by bringing non-alcoholic beer himself.

Shin Dong-yup, known to be a close friend of Kim Woo-bin, shared a funny memory, saying: “Kim Woo-bin was never a heavy drinker and was always the first to get drunk. It was very funny to me because when he got drunk, he would become very affectionate and say, ‘Hyung, I’m drunk.‘”

Through this anecdote, he revealed the actor’s softer side.

In response, Kim Woo-bin expressed his affection for Shin, saying, “Just knowing someone as famous as Shin Dong-yup gave me a lot of strength and made me feel like I was doing well in this career. When he casually invited me to eat, saying “Woo-bin, let’s go eat,” it meant a lot to me.”

Kim Woo-bin also shared insights into his self-care routine. Despite his busy schedule, he keeps fit with regular exercises and visits to the sauna. When Shin Dong-yup joked that his impressive physique might annoy others in the sauna, Kim humbly responded, “It’s just the thick clothes.”

Kim Sung-kyun added: “Kim Woo-bin’s body is really impressive. He always eats liquid chicken breast, but I can’t eat it.”

Kim Woo-bin admitted that while his body is not as out of shape as he feared, for his role in “Officer Black Belt” he wanted a character with an average physique rather than a ripped body with little body fat.

“I thought it would be better to have some body fat, so I happily ate more and gained about 8 kilograms,” revealed the actor.

Finally, Kim Woo-bin reflected on his battle with cancer, saying: “I am a positive person by nature and always find strength in any situation. Hearing that I only had ‘six months’ to live was shocking and scary, and I hoped it was just a dream. Despite that, I never thought, ‘What if I can’t get through this?'”

He continued“I saw it as an opportunity. After more than a decade of working continuously since my debut, I thought it was an opportunity to reflect and spend time with my family. That’s why I connected with my loved ones,” strengthening his positive outlook.
