TWICE Tzuyu drew mixed reactions from K-pop fans for her blank facial expression during her performance, casting doubt on her worth as a solo artist.
Following the respective solo debuts of “unnie-line” Nayeon and Jihyo, TWICE’s youngest member Tzuyu became the next member to attempt a solo music career.
On September 6, the idol released her first EP, “AbouTZU”, containing six tracks, including the title song, “Run Away”. After its release, Tzuyu actively promoted the album by appearing on variety shows and taking part in music performances.

While the star has gained immense support from the ONCE (fandom), Tzuyu has become a hot topic on TikTok after edits circulated among internet users calling out her mediocre solo performances.
In most of the videos, the singer’s expressionless expression was mocked by viewers, presumably due to her poor stage presence.
Netizens even question her singing and dancing skills, claiming that she has no talent but only visual ability. Finally, some wondered why she debuted as a solo artist, naming other TWICE members who would like to go solo instead.

Here are some comments:
- “Actually, when K-pop idols dance, I think they should use facial expressions and not look expressionless, otherwise they would just look boring.”
- “He doesn’t even bat an eyelid, he just gives us a death glare.”
- “The fact that the company literally had Jeongyeon there, she could have been the third (member) to debut solo.”
- “I mean, he could have at least smiled a little.”
On the other hand, there are supporters who defended Tzuyu and argued that she deserved it all, as she has worked hard to prove her worth ever since she was selected in “Sixteen”.

They pointed out that she has improved a lot and only true fans can appreciate her journey and efforts. In fact, in her appearance on the music program on September 13, Tzuyu took notes and understood the task, because she was seen smiling more intensely and making more facial expressions, as pointed out by web users.
- “I really noticed, the TWICE members always take their criticism and improve. I’m so proud of her.”
- “She’s improved a lot.”
On X, her fans then raised this concern and hoped that people would be understanding towards Tzuyu, as it’s her first time promoting without her older co-members, so it’s normal to feel nervous. The most important thing is that she’s constantly improving and fans are so proud of her.
It is disheartening to see the negative feedback directed at Tzuyu’s live performance. It is important to remember that Tzuyu is feeling nervous, which should not be a reason for criticism. She has shown remarkable dedication and effort, and I am super proud of that. photo.twitter.com/vWpJUxUcji
