On September 12, a NewJeans fan organization, @NewJeansSTRM (Team Bunnies), released a lengthy official statement, explaining the lawsuit filed against HYBE and including several allegations against the agency.
The full statement is as follows:
“Hi, this is Team Bunnies.
We would like to discuss the ongoing lawsuit and clarify some information currently mentioned by HYBE or the media, as well as share some facts with you.
First of all, regarding the ongoing case, we have been informed that an investigation began at the Seoul Yongsan Police Station yesterday (the 11th) and both the plaintiff and the defendant are expected to be questioned during October.
It is important to note that it is not just a particular media outlet, as mentioned in some online communities, that has provided us with information. There are reports that have been presented without evidence, as well as much information that has not been disclosed at the request of whistleblowers.
In May, HYBE intentionally distributed false information to the press, and when an article was written to correct it, they immediately went to the media to protest. But they didn’t stop at protesting.
According to journalists and media sources, HYBE made defamatory comments about Min Hee-jin, CEO of NewJeans, and also shared audit reports and internal documents that should not have been made public.
HYBE has committed illegal acts by protesting journalists who have written articles unfavorable to HYBE, by holding direct meetings with them, and by intentionally distributing audit reports and internal materials to journalists. The defamatory statements and details of audit reports provided by HYBE to journalists have been distributed word for word to the media and online communities. The issue of “gaslighting” reported in the media today is another example of this.
Yesterday (the 11th) at 4:00 PM, we presented additional evidence for the case and shared publicly a summary of some of the reporting provided by journalists. Within less than an hour of publishing the information, we were informed by multiple journalists that “The HYBE guys are protesting at the editorial office.”
Interestingly, when a media outlet reported on HYBE PR Director Cho Sung-hoon, they received threats. Later this afternoon (the 12th), we were also informed by our contacts and lawyers that HYBE is aware and is taking action, claiming that we are ridiculing CCO Park Tae-hee and PR Director Cho Sung-hoon by mentioning them by name.
Is HYBE really an entertainment company? While they have failed to adequately protect their artists for over six months, it is amazing how quickly they are able to act when their PR Director and Chief Communications Officer are mentioned by name without a single falsehood.
We are preparing to present additional evidence for the ongoing lawsuit and are also gathering materials for an additional lawsuit. When everything is ready, we will provide another update via Twitter.
There is still a lot of information that has not been made public. We continue to receive reports from insiders and journalists. Thank you.”
