According to JTBC, Victim A reported on September 10 that she was sexually assaulted while attending a class at a meditation center run by a popular meditation instructor, identified as Mr. Lee.
A said: “Towards the end of class, he suddenly told me to stand up, turn around and put my hands on the wall.” He continued, “When I put my hands on the wall, he started touching my body from head to toe with his body from behind..”
Despite A’s protests, Lee did not stop. A said: “I told him it didn’t feel right, but he suddenly put his arms around my waist and said he liked me but couldn’t express it because he was a married man.”
A minor with intellectual disabilities, who met Lee during a volunteer activity, was also a victim. The victim’s mother explained: “She said, “Are you very hot?” as she put her hand under the boy’s shirt and stroked his back, touching his buttocks as well.”
B, who was living abroad, met Lee when they returned to Korea. After offering to teach B English, Lee sent him sexually inappropriate text messages. B said, “He would send me messages saying he liked sleeping in my bed, kissing me and stuff like that.”
Eventually, B filed a police complaint against Lee. In July, Lee was fined 2 million won and sentenced to 40 hours of sexual assault treatment.
When asked for a statement, Lee’s representatives said they could not speak on his behalf.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul is investigating and believes there are at least four victims; it is also expanding its investigation to identify other potential victims.
