Appearing as a guest on the July 18 episode of MBN’s Kim Ju Ha’s Day and NightGoo Hye Sun reflected on the frightening medical emergency that occurred during filming and the emotional aftermath of that experience.
Speaking about his condition, he explained that it stemmed from severe food allergies. “I was told it was a food allergy. I have had allergic reactions to most types of food,” he said.
Goo then recalled the scary moments when he lost consciousness during filming. “I fainted a couple of times during filming. Once I collapsed in the bathroom. A healthcare worker noticed my hair and found me. At that moment, I remember thinking, ‘I wish they wouldn’t open the door.'” he shared, recalling the embarrassment and fear he felt.
She also spoke about being rushed to hospital and how the experience later inspired her to reflect on the meaning of human dignity.
“After I was taken to the hospital, I came across a poem about underwear. It was really about dignity,” he said. “When someone goes into cardiac arrest on the street, the rescuers cut off all their clothes with scissors. They had to take off all my clothes too. I later learned that many people don’t want to be exposed like that in front of others. I remember thinking, ‘I can’t die here.’ It made me think deeply about human dignity.”
The actress admitted that the unexpected loss of privacy during the emergency left a lasting emotional impact on her.
Despite enduring such a frightening ordeal, Goo revealed that her long battle with food allergies ended in a surprisingly unexpected way. “I have to eat to live, so I couldn’t imagine spending my life avoiding food,” he said. “Before I thought I might die, I asked myself what I wanted to eat most, and it was crab marinated in soy sauce.”
She revealed that she even made allergy medicine before eating the dish. “I thought, ‘If I die, at least I’ll die after eating what I really want’. But strangely, nothing happened. I didn’t have any allergic reactions and felt fine from then on.”
Goo concluded that from that unexpected experience she was able to eat normally without suffering from the severe food allergies that once threatened her life, leaving both the show’s hosts and viewers surprised by the extraordinary turn of events.
