aespa members Winter and Karina have shared fun behind-the-scenes stories about their journey at SM Entertainment, their cooking classes, and their dorm life during their appearance on JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerators since 2014.
During the July 5 broadcast, Winter was asked if there was a chef on the show who he considered his mentor. Pretending to think for a moment, he jokingly replied, “There was one?” before revealing that it was chef Kwon Sung Jun.
Winter said he learned to make pasta, lasagna and tiramisu from the chef. “He told me he would send me some pistachio cream, but he never did,” she complained jokingly. Kwon Sung Jun defended himself by saying, “How could I send this to you if I don’t even know your address?” The cast immediately mocked him, with Park Eun Young and Kim Poong pointing out, “You could have just sent him to his company.”
Winter then added another playful revelation. “Actually, I wasn’t his number one student.” When someone mentioned that legendary eSports player Faker was Kwon Sung Joon’s best disciple, Karina jokingly told Winter, “You should stay in second place. That seems right.”
Winter laughed and declared that he would instead look for a new culinary mentor, naming Choi Hyun Seok and Sam Kim as potential candidates. Feeling left out, chef Kim Poong jokingly protested, “You just jumped me,” prompting laughter from everyone.
The conversation then turned to the couple’s signature “SM look.” Karina insisted that Winter fit perfectly into SM Entertainment’s classic image, pointing to her fair complexion and comparing her to stars like Seo Hyun Jin and Taeyeon.
Winter, however, disagreed. “I think Karina is the true face of SM,” he explained. “I actually failed SM’s auditions about three times. I kept auditioning until I finally got in. But Unnie got a direct message from SM first.” He then summed up the difference with a memorable comparison. “She is the type who chose SM, while I am the type who chose SM.” The witty remark drew laughter from the studio.
Winter also joked that some of the chefs on the show looked like they could pass for SM artists. He chose Son Jong Won and Jung Ho Young because they had “SM images”. Explaining why he chose Jung Ho Young, he said he had the kind of look that naturally attracts devoted fans into a group, earning another laugh.
Winter and Karina also surprised viewers by bringing two separate refrigerators onto the show. When asked if they were living apart, Winter clarified that was not the case. “We don’t live separately. We used to split into two dorms with two members each, but recently we merged into one.” He continued, “Since we each had a refrigerator at the previous place, we ended up bringing both.”
The reveal gave fans a small glimpse into the aespa’s new living arrangements, while also showcasing the members’ relaxed chemistry and playful banter throughout the episode.
