According to an exclusive report from JTBC on June 26, the forensic science division of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office analyzed the audio file submitted by Kim Se Eui, head of the controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute.
Analysis reportedly found indications of editing and re-recording within the audio, raising questions about its authenticity. The investigators noted interruptions in the audio signal and differences in frequency patterns between the male and female voices recorded in the file.
Based on the forensic findings, prosecutors suggested the recording may not be a direct conversation.
Instead, they raised the possibility that a female voice recorded on a separate device would be played back and then re-recorded to simulate a real conversation. “It cannot be ruled out that a pre-recorded female voice was played and re-recorded to make it sound like real dialogue,” reportedly, the forensic report states. This led investigators to wonder whether the audio was artificially constructed rather than captured in real time.
The controversy began in May, when Kim Se Eui held a press conference claiming to have obtained an audio recording of Kim Sae Ron talking to an acquaintance. The file allegedly included claims that Kim Sae Ron had been in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun since middle school, prompting a strong online reaction and renewed debate about the actor.

Kim Soo Hyun’s side immediately denied the allegations, stating that the audio appeared to be generated or manipulated by artificial intelligence. Kim Se Eui, however, continued to insist that the recording was authentic.
In addition to the audio controversy, prosecutors are reportedly examining whether profits were made from disseminating such content. The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office is said to be monitoring donation flows linked to accounts associated with Kim Se Seui as part of a broader investigation into alleged “cyber racket” activity. South Korea’s justice minister also recently emphasized strict enforcement of crimes generated by online rumors, saying authorities will aggressively prosecute cases of financial exploitation.
Kim Se Eui is also currently on trial for allegedly stalking and intimidating YouTuber Tzuyang. He reportedly failed to show up for his first court hearing, prompting warnings from the court about a potential arrest warrant.
