According to Japanese media, including Nikkan Sports, the 29-year-old actor is suspected of assaulting a woman he was dating at his home in Tokyo’s Shibuya district on June 26 in 2024. Reports say Murakami admitted to the allegations during the investigation.
Japanese media reported that Murakami assaulted the woman on four occasions. He is accused of grabbing her hair and slamming her head against a window, as well as hitting her in the face. The woman reportedly suffered serious injuries that required more than a month of medical treatment.
The case has now been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office, which will evaluate whether to pursue formal charges. Although reports state that Murakami admitted to the alleged conduct, the referral itself does not constitute a final criminal sentence.
Neither Murakami nor his representatives were cited as having made a detailed public statement in the report.
Murakami is the son of actor Jun Murakami and singer UA. He made his acting debut in the 2014 film Water againwho appears alongside his father in real life and represents a father-son relationship on screen.
He later became known to international audiences through projects including The miracles of Namiya General Store and Netflix Alice in the Borderland series. The accusations shocked Japanese fans because Murakami had remained active in the entertainment industry and was preparing for another television appearance.
His next TV drama Tokyo Strange: The Sleepless Mystery Stories of Junji Ito the premiere is scheduled for July 3rd. The report does not indicate whether the investigation will affect the broadcast or its future operations.
