[WATCH] Young K gave IU a song he wrote himself: “I wish you would sing it with higher notes”

IU was at a loss for words when DAY6 Young K gifted her a snippet of a new English song the male idol had originally written for her to sing.

On September 9, JYP Entertainment’s K-pop rock band DAY6 participated in the YouTube web show “IU’s Palette” to promote their recent album “Band Aid”, which was released on September 2.

On the show, the team (Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon) tried to highlight their unique personalities, distinguishing themselves from their bandmates, by sharing their respective TMIs of the month.

Among the members, singer Young K showed a competitive spirit when he jumped up from his seat and pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket.

The singer handed it to IU and surprised her after saying:

“I wrote the chorus of a song.”

Young K also started singing the lyrics with a melody he composed, and IU, who was listening to him, was amazed, but later praised his skill.

Just then, IU was shocked when the singer discreetly confessed that he had given her the song and gave a backstory about his writing.

“I wrote it while I was imagining you singing it on stage. I wish you would sing it with higher notes. I wrote them in English for your world tour.”

IU clarified that she was indeed in the dark and proved that it was not written in her script. It was later revealed that it was a surprise event prepared for her. The soloist gladly accepted the gift and enthusiastically attested to Young K:

“I can imagine how it works, from the code that works. I would like to sing it with my voice.”

Young K and IU briefly sang the song in harmony, and the latter, still amazed, hinted at a possible collaboration by asking the DAY6 singer to work together to complete the song.

During the broadcast, UAENA (IU’s fandom) and MyDays (DAY6 fans) went wild, expressing their anticipation for the aforementioned future collaboration. Young K received praise for his thoughtfulness and genius skills, while IU received applause for her genuine and grateful reaction after receiving the song.

In the comments section, fans expressed their wish for the song to be released soon, such as:

• “IU, make sure you work with Young K. It doesn’t matter when I’ll wait for you. I really want to hear it with IU’s voice.”
• “This combination is so good it makes me melt.”
