Pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about living with significant hearing loss in one ear. The singer reportedly made the revelation during a recent appearance on KISS FM in the UK while discussing her latest music with hosts Tyler West and Chloe Burrows.
During the interview, the conversation turned to his new song What’s Wrong With Me?. When one of the hosts jokingly asked her what was “wrong” with her, Olivia Rodrigo responded with surprising honesty. “There are actually quite a few things wrong with me” he joked before adding that he can only hear about 40% through his left ear.
Olivia Rodrigo explained her condition with her characteristic sense of humor. “If you sit to my left and whisper a secret, I probably won’t understand what you’re saying.” He went on to joke that anyone who wanted to share a secret should move to his right instead. The unexpected confession reportedly surprised the radio hosts, who were unaware of the extent of his hearing problems.
This isn’t the first time Olivia Rodrigo has spoken publicly about her hearing condition. In 2023, he revealed that he first learned he had hearing loss during a hearing test when he was in kindergarten. Despite being diagnosed at a young age, the singer has become one of the most successful artists of her generation, earning global recognition for her songwriting, vocal performances and chart-topping albums.
During the interview, Olivia Rodrigo also spoke about the inspiration behind her latest album. She explained that the project captures her experience learning what romantic love is in real life and navigating relationships as an adult. According to the singer, the album reflects her first experience with what she considers a truly mature romantic relationship.
When asked about heartbreak, Olivia Rodrigo reflected on a difficult breakup she experienced as a teenager. “Nothing will ever be more painful than the breakup I experienced when I was 17.” he said. She added that with age she has become better at handling rejections and setbacks, both in relationships and in her professional life, without taking them personally.
Olivia Rodrigo was previously linked to British actor Louis Partridge. Reports indicated that the couple ended their relationship after about two years of dating. While she continues to keep much of her personal life private, the singer’s recent comments suggest that many of her newest songs draw from her experiences of love, growth and self-discovery.
