After a nine-year hiatus, tvN’s iconic travel variety show Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition has successfully returned, proving that simple, unscripted entertainment can still resonate with audiences.
The new season, which concluded on June 7, followed actors Jung Yu-mi, Park Seo-joon and Choi Woo-shik on a six-day, five-night road trip through South Korea. It marked the franchise’s first season since 2017’s WINNER and quickly earned praise for bringing back the show’s signature “limited” travel format.
Limited Edition’s biggest twist was the decision to ban smartphones and impose strict budget restrictions on the cast. Without access to navigation apps, online searches or instant information, the three stars were forced to rely on locals and traditional methods to find their way. The resulting accidents, unexpected encounters, and problem-solving moments created many of the season’s most memorable scenes.
Viewers particularly responded to the warmth of these interactions, including moments when the cast thanked strangers who helped them on the journey and formed authentic connections with local residents.

Jung Yu-mi, who initially admitted she was nervous about traveling without her phone, later described the experience as a once-in-a-lifetime trip and said it had given her newfound confidence.
The cast traveled from Seoul through several regions, including Daegu, Namwon, Boseong, Gwangju, Wando, before reaching the final destination on Jeju Island.

The program’s scenic cinematography highlighted lesser-known travel destinations across the country and reminded viewers of the allure of domestic travel. One particularly notable example was Namwon’s “Digital Citizen” program, which gained renewed public attention after being featured on the show. Local reports indicated that registrations for the initiative surpassed 200,000 participants after the broadcast.
The final episode continued the season’s theme of analog travel. When searching for their favorite black pork restaurant in Jeju, the cast couldn’t simply look up directions online and instead had to ask nearby residents for help. The finale also included a lucky moment where Choi Woo-shik won a 100,000 won bonus, helping the trio overcome some financial limitations imposed by the production team.

After returning safely to Seoul, the cast participated in a live broadcast to celebrate the end of the trip. When asked if they would resume the journey under the same conditions, all three responded without hesitation: “Yes.”
The enthusiastic response reflected the chemistry between the cast members and the success of a season that prioritized authenticity over spectacle.
In an entertainment landscape increasingly filled with high-concept formats and intense competitive shows, Youth Over Flowers: Limited Edition has proven that authentic friendships, meaningful travel experiences and simple human connections can still capture the hearts of viewers.
