TV personality Seo Dong Joo reveals the terrifying break-in by a man posing as a gas inspector

TV personality Seo Dong Joo has spoken out about a frightening break-in at his home earlier this year involving a man pretending to be a city gas inspector. The same individual was later linked to a robbery at the home of actress Kim Gyu Ri, which caused injuries and raised public concern in South Korea over how the suspect was handled before the second incident.

Seo addressed the situation on June 6, 2026 (KST) through his social media account after receiving many messages from concerned fans.

According to Koreaboo, she explained that initial reports had created confusion and clarified that she was not involved in any crime.

“I am not the thief who hurt Kim Gyu Ri. The stalker who broke into my house this January turned out to be the same person who broke into Kim Gyu Ri’s house and committed the crime,” he wrote.

Seo said the incident occurred while she was home alone. A man arrived claiming to be a city gas inspector and was allowed inside. At first he believed him, but he immediately realized that something was wrong.

“Of course I thought he was a city gas inspector. Oddly enough, I felt an uneasiness that was hard to explain,” he shared, describing the moment as deeply disturbing.

Inside the home, Seo said the man walked around and took detailed photos of the pipes and interior areas. She called her husband and kept the phone on speaker so the man knew she wasn’t alone, while she carefully watched his movements.

His dogs approached the stranger and the man eventually left after appearing nervous. At one point, Seo even questioned his instincts and briefly offered him a drink before realizing the situation might be suspicious.

After he left, she met a real gas inspector outside and confirmed to Korea City Gas that no male workers had been sent to her home. He then reported the incident to the police.

Seo later learned that the man had described himself as a fan who wanted to meet her and “get energy.” He also said he had already tried to contact her. She had not spoken publicly before because investigators advised her to avoid sharing details during the case.

The situation gained more attention after reports linked the same man to a break-in at actress Kim Gyu Ri’s home in Bukchon Hanok village, Seoul, KPopHit reported. During the incident, the suspect allegedly committed robbery and caused injuries before being arrested.

Police had previously requested an arrest and temporary detention warrant for stalking and trespassing in Seo’s case, but the court rejected the request. The suspect was on trial without detention when the second incident occurred.

Seo concluded his message with a warning to the public, urging caution when dealing with anyone claiming to be a public service worker.

“If something seems strange or strange to you, never open the door or let anyone in when you are alone,” he wrote, saying the experience remains a frightening memory.
