Veteran martial arts actor Yuen Wah recently amused audiences with his heartfelt comments about Jackie Chan, jokingly describing the global action star as “miserly” during their childhood years.
According to Sinchew, the Hong Kong martial arts veteran recently appeared on a television program, where he shared a series of funny stories about his fellow members of the famous Seven Little Fortunes troupe.
Yuen Wah revealed that he grew up alongside Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung from a young age. Having spent much of their childhood together, the trio developed a close bond and became extremely familiar with each other’s personalities and habits. When asked if Jackie Chan was really as stingy as the rumors suggested, Yuen Wah responded with a laugh, “From my point of view, he was a stingy person.”

The actor quickly clarified that his comment was joking. He explained that when Jackie Chan was young, he often hid the snacks or food he had. Only when the food was about to expire or go bad would he take it out and share it with everyone else.
In contrast, Sammo Hung was known to be exceptionally generous. According to Yuen Wah, the martial arts star often invited everyone to eat together and approached both life and work with a relaxed and open-minded attitude. Yuen Wah admitted that Sammo Hung remains the Seven Little Fortunes member he admires and respects the most.
Aside from revealing funny stories about his childhood comrades-in-arms, Yuen Wah has rarely spoken about his romance with his wife Evina, who has no ties to the entertainment industry.
The couple first met at Shaw Brothers Studios. At the time, Evina accompanied her mother on a visit to the film set and Yuen Wah immediately fell in love with her at first sight. After dating for just a year, the two decided to get married.
Evina also appeared on the program and praised her husband for being a devoted family man. He shared that Yuen Wah would go straight home to his wife and children every day after finishing work.

She further revealed that whenever Yuen Wah received her salary, he handed over the entire amount to her for management, keeping only a small amount of money for personal use.
Subsequently, for the sake of her children’s education, Evina moved with their two children to Vancouver, Canada. During that time, Yuen Wah spent years traveling frequently between Hong Kong and Canada to balance work and family life.
Now that their children have grown up, married and started families of their own, Yuen Wah has also become a grandfather. After decades of hard work and long-distance sacrifices, the couple is finally enjoying a quiet and comfortable retirement together.
