Actress Lee Ja-eun has attracted widespread sympathy after revealing disturbing experiences she allegedly endured in the entertainment industry, including endorsement pressure, sexual harassment, financial exploitation and what she described as being monitored inside a hotel for months.
The actress shared her story during a recent appearance on a YouTube channel hosted by Shin Jung-hwan.
The video, titled “Reality was crueler than movies…actress Lee Ja-eun”was uploaded on May 27 and quickly gained attention online for its shocking revelations.
During the interview, Lee Ja-eun said that she was introduced to a powerful individual through her management agency and later received a separate proposal regarding a new exclusive contract.
According to the actress, the offer included monthly living expenses, a car and even an apartment.
He described the proposal as “a dream contract”.
However, Lee Ja-eun explained that the individual repeatedly implied that he was single while allegedly failing to keep promises and constantly lying to her. The actress also made alarming claims about being trapped in a hotel under surveillance.
According to Lee Ja-eun: “There were constant implications that someone was watching me.” He said he spent nearly two months under 24-hour monitoring and described the experience as terrifying.
Lee Ja-eun also claimed that she was once threatened with a Japanese sword, saying: “I was so scared. He wasn’t a normal person.”
In addition to the sponsorship allegations, Lee Ja-eun also accused a former agency representative of sexual harassment.
She recalled the manager telling her he wanted to do it “help her succeed” in the entertainment industry before pulling down the office shutters and behaving inappropriately.
Lee Ja-eun said she immediately fled the office in tears. The actress claimed that the man told her: “If you want to survive in this industry, you need someone like me to help you.”
His account sparked outrage among viewers, many of whom expressed anger at the alleged abuse of power within the entertainment industry.
Lee Ja-eun also revealed that she suffered financial harm as she struggled to survive through part-time jobs.
According to the actress, the same person who allegedly segregated her then convinced her to apply for loans in her name after she claimed that she needed money urgently.
She said she was introduced to someone who could help her secure the loans, the money was taken from her and was never repaid.
Lee Ja-eun revealed that she has spent the last eight years continuing to pay off debt on her own.
The actress is reportedly a theater artist with 13 years of experience working in theater and musicals.
His interview has since reignited online discussions about exploitation, abuse and power imbalance within the Korean entertainment industry.
