On May 26, the YouTube channel Hwang Bo Ra Boriety uploaded a video titled “Hwang Bo Ra’s son with attention deficit tendencies, the problem is caused by 00!? | Real parenting, parenting concerns, child development tests.”
In the video, Hwang Bo Ra and her husband visited a developmental game counseling center to check on their son Woo In’s gaming environment and daily habits. Hwang Bo Ra shared, “He’ll be two years old next week,” adding, “I think this is the stage where discipline is becoming necessary.”
She continued: “The biggest problem is that every time we go out somewhere, he gets overly excited and starts whining,” before confessing: “He also cries so much when he brushes his teeth and refuses to do it, so I was really worried.”
Her husband, Cha Hyun Woo, also honestly shared his feelings about parenthood. She said: “There are a lot of positive comments, but when we see negative comments, it naturally worries us as parents.”
The counseling specialist then carefully discussed Woo In’s habitual behavior one by one. Hwang Bo Ra admitted that she was also worried about his language development, saying, “I wondered if it was because I didn’t read enough books to him.”
The specialist replied: “When it comes to language development, communication is more important than books.” The expert added: “Woo In expresses what he wants very much, but seems to have a little difficulty listening to others, recognizing situations and stopping his actions accordingly.”
The counselor also advised, “If discipline seems difficult, you should consider play time,” explaining that building a relationship naturally through play helps children develop the ability to listen and communicate better.
During the next play session, interactive games were introduced using blocks and dinosaur toys. The specialist emphasized: “The beginning of the game is waiting for the child to make a choice,” adding: “If you verbally explain the child’s actions while playing, both vocabulary and social skills can develop together.”
As he watched Woo In quickly shift his attention elsewhere during the game, Hwang Bo Ra expressed concern, saying, “Most children stay focused longer, but his attention span seems unusually short.”
However, the specialist reassured her by explaining: “It could be simply because he notices many things around him.” The expert continues: “It could be a child with strong attentional perception. Rather than focusing on one thing, he tends to notice everything around him.”
The session then moved on to observing Woo In’s eating habits. While eating, the child suddenly became restless and eventually spit up and threw the spoon.
Looking flustered, Hwang Bo Ra commented, “Lately, he has been spitting like this too.” However, the specialist handled the situation calmly by asking the child, “Woo In, are you done eating? Are you done now?”
The expert then advised Hwang Bo Ra: “Before these behaviors occur, try asking questions like, ‘Have you finished eating?’ or “Do you want to come down?” so you can confirm the child’s intentions in advance.
Towards the end of the consultation, the specialist firmly reassured the couple that Woo In was “not a child with developmental problems”. The expert explained: “It is within the normal developmental process,” adding: “If you continue to practice emotional regulation in situations like these, he can grow very well.”
At the end of the counseling session, Hwang Bo Ra expressed satisfaction, saying, “I learned a lot about how to play with children.” She added: “I was honestly shocked that even a simple block game could lead to so many different conversations while explaining situations.”
Meanwhile, Hwang Bo Ra married Kim Yong Gun’s son and Ha Jung Woo’s younger brother Kim Young Hoon, better known as Cha Hyun Woo, in 2022. The couple welcomed their son last year. More recently, Hwang Bo Ra also revealed that she underwent IVF treatment as she prepared to have a second child, although she later spoke about experiencing side effects from the procedure.
