K-pop supergroup BTS is set to make a highly anticipated return to the American Music Awards (AMA) with a special in-person appearance at the 2026 ceremony, marking their first live appearance at the event in several years.

The announcement was made by organizers CBS and Dick Clark Productions, confirming that the group will appear at the May 25 show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

This appearance has quickly become one of the most talked about moments leading up to the awards night, as fans eagerly await the group’s return to a major stage in the United States.

BTS is also nominated in three categories this year, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Summer and Best Male K-pop Artist, KoreaHerald reported.

The group will compete in the top category alongside global stars such as Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber, making the race for the biggest prize particularly competitive.

BTS has a long history with the AMAs. Their 2017 performance of “DNA” marked their US television debut at the ceremony, making them the first Korean group to perform on the show.

Since then, they have racked up numerous awards and made history in 2021 when they became the first Asian group to win the Artist of the Year award.

Over the years, BTS has scored 11 AMA wins and built a strong global fan base that has followed their journey through music, tours and solo projects. Their return to the AMA stage in 2026 is seen as a major moment in their ongoing international career.

According to CNA, their latest album Arirang it also enjoyed great success, debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and holding its position for three weeks.

Lead single “Swim” also reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, adding to the group’s global chart dominance.

The group is currently continuing their own Arirang world tour, with upcoming shows scheduled in several countries, including a four-night stop in Singapore in December. They are also scheduled to headline the first halftime show of the World Cup final on July 19 alongside Madonna and Shakira, in a performance headlined by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

The 2026 AMAs will be hosted by rapper and actress Queen Latifah, with other artists including Billy Idol, Katseye, Twenty One Pilots and other international artists.
