A former idol rapper has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison on sexual assault charges. The court reportedly criticized the “seriousness of the crime,” but the rapper has chosen to appeal the verdict. According to legal sources, as reported by Korean media on September 7, 2024, he filed an appeal on September 4.
He was sentenced on August 30, 2024 for violating the Special Law on Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes by using a camera or other devices to illegally capture and distribute images. The court also ordered him to undergo 40 hours of sexual violence treatment and was given a 3-year restriction on employment in institutions related to children and persons with disabilities. His lawyer asked for leniency, arguing that there was no intention to leak the images. The victims had previously requested severe punishment during the sentencing hearing in June 2024.
The three victims were romantically involved with the perpetrator. The former idol offered compensation to two of the victims, who refused and instead begged for severe punishment. Although the seriousness of the crime was acknowledged, the court also noted that the former idol appeared remorseful and had no criminal record, and had not even distributed the images. He was therefore sentenced to a year and a half instead of the requested three years.
The former idol was accused of illegally recording his victims during sexual intercourse and filming sensitive body parts of his then-partners. In the case of one of his victims, the rapper filmed her a total of 18 times between July 2022 and May 2023, including footage of her blindfolded.
The former idol is said to have debuted in 2017 and ceased activities due to health reasons in 2019. The group itself is no longer active.
