According to Yonhap News on May 3, Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station imposed a travel ban on a Japanese trainee, named A, on suspicion of fraud.
A was preparing to debut in a six-member boy group but abruptly cut off contact in December last year, leaving only a message stating that “trust had been broken.” The group later debuted as a five-member group without A. It was later revealed that A had already signed a contract “double contract” with another agency, leading the original company to take legal action.
The agency said “It was confirmed that A also suddenly cut off contacts and disappeared from a previously contracted company. After signing contracts with Korean agencies and receiving substantial investments, A repeatedly fled to Japan right before starting operations.” Based on these claims, the company filed a fraud complaint against the intern.
The agency also said it spent around KRW 57.43 million over four months to prepare A for debut, covering the costs of training, song and choreography production, recording, music video shooting, meals and accommodation.
Police believe A is currently still in South Korea and are working to determine his whereabouts.
