A disbanded idol group just reunited exactly as fans dreamed

In a rare move in the K-pop industry, BOYFRIEND is returning with their full group under their original name.

It is rare for K-pop groups to reunite with all original members after leaving their agency. Legal rights, trademark ownership, and differing career paths often prevent such reunions or force groups to promote themselves under a new name.

A notable example is HIGHLIGHT, formerly known as BEAST, which had to rebrand after leaving its own agency.

One of the few groups to overcome these challenges is GOT7. After leaving JYP Entertainment in 2021, all members pursued individual careers but later reunited for group releases in 2022 and 2024 while maintaining their original names.

Thanks in part to leader Jay B, GOT7 secured the rights to their group’s identity, becoming a game-changer in the industry.

Originally debuting in 2011 under Starship Entertainment, BOYFRIEND gained attention as the first K-pop group to feature twin members and built a stable fan base through Korean and Japanese promotions.

However, in 2019, the group officially disbanded.

For their tenth anniversary, the members reunited under the name “BF” and released the song “Ending Credit”, which many initially believed marked a final farewell. Contrary to expectations, the group continued activities, eventually returning to the name BOYFRIEND for their Japanese single album “Time Limit”.

Now, celebrating their 15th anniversary, BOYFRIEND have officially announced a Korean comeback together with BOY Fan Concert 2026: Our Fifteenth Season.

This marks their first Korean release in years and a significant milestone in their journey.

With this return, BOYFRIEND joins GOT7 as one of the very few K-pop groups to:

  • Leave their original agency
  • Reunite with all rookie members
  • Promote them again under the original group name

In an industry where reunions are often incomplete or renamed, BOYFRIEND’s return stands out as rare and significant while offering fans a full-circle moment that’s been years in the making.
