The backlash began after netizens noticed that some extremely popular V fancams, mostly taken by fans, were being removed from online platforms. A large number of these fancams had huge views, surpassing those posted by official music shows.

These fancams were reportedly deleted from the internet after being hit with copyright infringement by HYBE, which angered netizens. Since these copyright infringements only happened to V’s videos and no other BTS members, many also accused the company of intentionally targeting V.
Hybe has claimed copyright for V’s Pied Piper fancam from “To MY DARLING V” and has shut down the “mumu_tae” channel for the same reason, while the other members’ fancams from the same performance are still available.

As the backlash mounted, HYBE appears to have responded by quietly withdrawing the copyright claim from some fancams, much to the delight of fans.
