KBS’s iconic variety show Happy Together is officially making its long-awaited return, with national MC Yoo Jae Suk confirmed as the main host. The beloved show will premiere in July 2026, marking its return after a six-year hiatus.
First airing in 2001, Happy Together aired for nearly two decades before ending in 2020. Over the course of its run, it became one of Korea’s most recognizable variety shows, producing iconic segments like “Tray Karaoke,” “Sauna Talk,” and “Late Night Snack Bar.”
At its peak, the show recorded an impressive 24% viewership rate, cementing its place as a cornerstone of Korean entertainment history.
The reboot, titled Happy Together, will take on a completely new direction. Unlike previous seasons that focused on celebrity speech formats, the upcoming season will be a story-driven musical audition program.
Participants will compete in teams, emphasizing harmony, collaboration and personal storytelling rather than simple vocal ability. The production team aims to create a more emotional, narrative-driven experience that resonates with modern audiences.
As the main MC, Yoo Jae Suk is expected to play a central role in guiding the contestants and telling their stories. Known for his empathy and wit, he will act not only as host but also as a bridge between participants and spectators.

His return to Happy Together is especially significant, as the show played a major role in transforming his career into that of Korea’s “Nation’s MC”.
The show has already started recruiting participants through its official website, with applications open until May 31st. Unlike traditional audition programs, there are no restrictions on age, gender or team size, making it accessible to a wide range of contestants.
The first episode will air in July on KBS 2TV, marking the beginning of what many expect to be one of the biggest variety show revivals of the year.
Over its 19-year history, Happy Together has evolved through multiple formats while maintaining its core identity as a people-centered entertainment program. Its return reflects both nostalgia and innovation: it brings a beloved brand back to life while adapting to today’s viewing trends.
