K-pop icons Wonder Girls have officially entered their 20th year since debut, marking a major milestone for one of the groups that defined the genre’s golden era. It’s also been nine years since their disbandment in 2017. Leaving the blinding spotlight behind, each member has charted their own path spanning acting, music, producing and beyond, continuing to expand their individual careers.
Recently, Ahn So Hee appeared on the YouTube channel Life84 and declared his retirement from singing. He shared, “I have moved on to acting and am focusing solely on that now.” Although she sometimes lacks the energy to perform on stage, she explained that theater fulfilled that desire. Having steadily built her acting portfolio, she is now determined to dedicate herself fully to her acting career, leaving her idol identity behind.
In contrast, Sunye has successfully returned to the entertainment industry by tackling past controversies head-on with her talent. Once criticized for what was labeled an “Irresponsible departure” after announcing her marriage as the first active idol to do so, she faced skepticism again when news of her appearance on tvN broke. Mom the idol in 2021. However, he has proven his abilities through stable vocals and performances, and now continues to expand his activities through musicals and solo releases. Although they started out together, the members now operate in completely different fields, each building their own unique careers.

Sunmi, often referred to as a “solo queen”, has established a distinct artistic identity. With his signature “Boring-pop” style, she consolidated her position as a leading female soloist. He has also demonstrated his experience as a judge on programs such as JTBC Sing againfurther expanding its influence in the industry.
Yeeun (HA:TFELT) has continued her journey as a singer-songwriter, releasing music that reflects deeply personal and introspective themes distinct from the Wonder Girls era. Beyond music, she is not afraid to express her values, speaking openly about social issues such as feminism and non-marriage. Although her opinions sometimes elicit mixed reactions, they have helped establish her as an artist with a strong, independent voice.

Meanwhile, Yubin and Hyerim focused on different aspects of life. Yubin started her own agency, rrr Entertainment, where she is developing her producing skills. Hyerim, after marriage and childbirth, finds a balance between academics, translation work and broadcasting, demonstrating versatility in multiple fields.
Despite pursuing different careers, the members continue to support each other, occasionally appearing in each other’s content and maintaining strong bonds. The trust built over two decades has become a source of emotional support as they settle into their respective paths.

As a result, public anticipation for a full-group reunion remains high. With other second-generation girl groups like KARA and 2NE1 recently reuniting and attracting great attention, fans are hoping for a Wonder Girls comeback. Although Ahn So Hee has drawn the line at returning to the stage as a singer, the desire for special performances or commemorative projects continues to grow.
Some left the stage, while others returned. Once united under the name Wonder Girls, they are now writing the second chapter of their lives under their own name, and the story is far from over.
