BLACKPINK’s Jennie has become the center of online debate following the release of a short video capturing her interaction with Hong Kong airport staff.
The accident occurred while Jennie was leaving after completing her scheduled activities in the city. Dressed in an all-black outfit, including a knit beanie, hoodie, sunglasses and a face mask, the idol kept a low-key appearance as he made his way to the boarding gate.
During the identity verification process, airport staff asked her to briefly remove her sunglasses and mask, as per standard procedure. In the video, Jennie is seen pulling her mask halfway down and slowly taking off her sunglasses while keeping her head down. Once he completed the check and returned his passport, he immediately left the area without any obvious interaction or acknowledgment of staff.
The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, triggering divided reactions among netizens. Some criticized his behavior, interpreting his actions as cold or contemptuous towards the service staff. Comments emerged describing her as “rude” or “arrogant”, with critics questioning her attitude in a routine situation.
At the same time, many fans have come to her defense, claiming that the short clip doesn’t provide the full context. Supporters have pointed out that idols often face grueling schedules and intense public scrutiny, suggesting that fatigue or a desire for privacy could explain her secretive behavior. They also pointed out that brief moments captured on camera can be misleading and should not be used to form definitive judgments about a person’s character.
As the discussion continues, the incident once again highlights the intense level of scrutiny K-pop idols face in public spaces, where even minor interactions can quickly escalate into widespread controversy.
