It’s no exaggeration to say that TVB dramas once defined an entire era for large audiences in Asia. Although the station is past its golden age, it still holds a special place in the hearts of viewers. However, recent rumors circulating widely on social media that TVB is on the verge of collapse have left long-time fans deeply concerned. Chinese outlet Sohu has also flagged several worrying signs that suggest the broadcaster may be nearing a tipping point.
According to Sohu, almost three months into 2026, TVB has yet to start filming any new drama projects. Typically, the station must produce about 13 original series each year. However, as of 2025, only five were reportedly completed. If this trend continues into 2026, TVB may be forced to significantly change its programming model.

Additionally, the station’s stock of self-produced content is said to be running low. Even with reruns and content imported from other platforms, current projections suggest that TVB may only be able to maintain broadcast operations until 2027. This has drawn comparisons to Asia Television (ATV), a former rival that eventually closed, further raising concerns among fans.
Reports also indicate that TVB is experiencing a wave of departures, with many employees resigning, including actors, voice actors and long-serving behind-the-scenes staff. Notably, Eric Tsang reportedly announced that he will step down from his position as general manager during an awards ceremony in early 2026.

Many believe these departures stem from a lack of confidence in the future of the network. In entertainment forums, public sentiment has become increasingly pessimistic, especially as the film and television industry in general continues to face challenges.
However, it is important to note that this news remains one-sided and has not been officially confirmed by TVB. Many viewers still hope that the network can recover and regain stability in the near future.
