Jisoo returns with a new project after a year with the Netflix series Boyfriend on requestreleased on March 6th. The romantic comedy follows a webtoon producer named Mirae (played by Jisoo) who is exhausted from real life and turns to a virtual dating simulation where she can sign up and experience romance.
The project has already attracted global attention simply due to Jisoo’s involvement. As the first Netflix series starring a member of BLACKPINK, the drama has generated considerable anticipation among international fans. The romantic comedy genre, which has long been loved by many viewers of Korean dramas, has also raised expectations of excellent results.
However, critics say that lead actress Jisoo continues to show the same flaws that appeared in her previous works. Even though she’s now spent six years being called an “actress,” his overall acting ability is said to have changed little.

One of the most frequently mentioned issues was his vocal delivery. Jisoo’s distinctive nasal tone and somewhat limited speaking style make it difficult for her to carry the pace of scenes naturally. At the same time, critics say that it is difficult to find particularly powerful acting moments that can compensate for these weaknesses. His delivery of the lively dialogue typical of romantic comedies is sometimes considered awkward, and he does not fully utilize physical comedy when scenes call for it. As a result, some viewers feel that gaps in the performance are often filled primarily by its visual appeal.

Boyfriend on request is largely centered around Jisoo’s character. The 10-episode series follows her journey alongside numerous “boyfriends” in the virtual dating simulation, meaning she spends the majority of the drama’s screen time. Because of this, any perceived limitations in your acting ability may become even more apparent.
Jisoo first started acting in 2021. She later attempted a genre project with drama Newtopiareleased on Coupang Play, and now presents its third major drama Boyfriend on request. Despite ongoing concerns about his acting abilities, he continues to meet global audiences through new projects.

Director Kim Jung-sik, who directed Boyfriend on requestexpressed confidence in the star. “Jisoo worked incredibly hard,” he said. “He handled many different settings and characters well. You will see the character Mirae grow in the drama, and you will see the actress Jisoo grow too. Commitment can surpass talent.”
Jisoo herself also spoke about her approach to the role. “As I take on various roles, I met with the director to discuss how I could show a better side this time,” he said. “Since I play a character my age, I looked for ways to play him more effectively. I hope people will say that I met a character that suits me perfectly.”
