BLACKPINK’s upcoming album sparks outrage from fans

As BLACKPINK wraps up their global tour, anticipation for their long-awaited comeback has been high, but recent developments have triggered a wave of backlash rather than excitement.

The group’s comeback was originally scheduled for 2025 before the world tour, but the schedule changed and the single “Jump” was released in the meantime. Since then, information about the return has been revealed gradually, but fan reactions have become increasingly mixed.

On February 5, BLACKPINK officially revealed the tracklist for their upcoming album, which is scheduled to be released on February 27. The album features five songs in total, including the previously released “Jump,” the title track “Go,” and a provocatively titled B-side “Fxxxboy.” Instead of fueling the hype, the limited number of tracks immediately disappointed many fans, reigniting criticism of what some see as a disappointing release for a group of BLACKPINK’s stature.

The controversy intensified when songs that had previously been circulating online as supposed leaks were actually confirmed as part of the album. Last year, snippets of songs believed to be titled “Me and My” and “Champion” spread across social media before being removed due to copyright claims. At the time, many assumed the leaks were fake or incomplete demos. Their apparent inclusion has now left fans confused and frustrated.

In particular, the lyrics associated with “Me and my” drew harsh criticism, with some listeners accusing the song of being draggy misogynistic overtones which clash with the consolidated image of the group. Others have taken issue with what they describe as a “negligent” OR “uninspired” launch, pointing to the simple tracklist poster and lack of detailed promotion as signs of minimal effort.

Reactions online have been fierce, with extreme comments ranging from disappointment to outright hostility. While such responses reflect a vocal segment of the fandom, they highlight the growing tension between expectations for BLACKPINK’s return and the direction the album appears to be taking.

As the release date approaches, attention is now focused on whether the full album will be able to shift public opinion or whether the backlash surrounding the leaks, lyrics, and limited tracklist will continue to overshadow BLACKPINK’s highly anticipated comeback.
