On February 3, the production team behind the Disney+ original series Portraits of illusion cautiously stated that no official release date has been finalized. “There is currently no confirmed release time or schedule. We will provide updates as soon as there is new information,” the team said.
Set in Gyeongseong in 1935, Portraits of illusion is a romantic mystery drama starring Kim Seon-ho alongside Bae Suzy. While it was previously announced to release in the second half of the year, the platform has yet to confirm a specific window for the premiere.
The situation is similar for Kim Seon-ho’s other projects. According to insiders, the drama Unfriend (working title)which was once discussed as a potential TVING original series, failed to secure programming early on. This decision, the sources underlinewas made regardless of Kim Seon-ho’s current tax controversy. Meanwhile, tvN drama The deputy protects (provisional title) it is reportedly still in pre-production. The project has not yet entered filming and neither the broadcast schedule nor official programming details have been confirmed.
Kim Seon-ho recently came under scrutiny after reports emerged that he received his entertainment income through a single-member company established under his family’s name. The allegations allege that his parents were registered as house directors of the company and that funds were routed through the company account, first paid as salaries to his parents before being transferred back to him. Further claims suggested that living expenses and vehicle maintenance costs were paid using a company credit card, raising suspicions of a reduction in company tax liability through expense processing.
In response, his agency, Fantagio, clarified that the company was established for theatrical production and related activities, denying any intentional tax avoidance or evasion. The agency said the company has since ceased operations and is currently being shut down in accordance with legal procedures.
