However, her first plastic surgery was not voluntary.
Jessi’s personal story is told in the new Apple TV+ documentary K-Pop Idols, along with K-Pop groups BLACK SWAN AND CRAVITY’.
The Korean-American solo artist said she was initially pressured into plastic surgery by her agency at the time, which triggered insecurities in her that she would never have had otherwise.
The first time I had surgery, the rhinoplasty that they did on me, I touched it up. But once I did that, I started seeing all the flaws on my face. And that’s when I started touching the sh*t up. So, before that, I wasn’t insecure. I started getting insecure after the surgery, and that’s when I lost control.

As a result, Jessi continued to alter her appearance to boost her self-esteem. She confessed that she had unfortunately lost control and overdid it.
The first time I got lip injections, I liked them. They were, like, a good size. And then I started overdoing it.

Jessi got her wake-up call when she started getting hate and criticism aimed at her appearance, especially the work she had done. So, she melted some lip filler.
When I got a reality check, everyone was like, “Wow. That looks so gross.” And I did. And my lips even melted.

However, Jessi is not completely against plastic surgery. She just wishes it was done of one’s own free will rather than having someone force it on another person. However, she stressed that it is important to have self-control and not become addicted to it. While getting surgery can help some people’s self-esteem, for others it can only open the door to more insecurities.
I think improving yourself is good. When you want to do it and someone forces you to do it, it’s completely different. You have to know your limits, you know? And it’s really hard, actually, because once you start doing the procedures, little by little, you keep finding fault with yourself, and it’s really hard to control.
