In 2015, during BEAST’s 6th anniversary broadcast, Jang Hyunseung attracted criticism after giving a candid answer to a fan’s question about his most memorable moment with the group. He responded that it was the reaction he received for missing a fan sign event for personal reasons, stating: “My private life should remain private.”
That comment inflamed what became known as Jang “attitude scandal”. Fans soon resurfaced old clips and incidents: missed dance moves, low-effort performances, and general disinterest in group activities. Despite public apologies from both Jang and CUBE Entertainment in early 2016, he ultimately left BEAST in April of that year.
Years later, during his military service, fans noticed a change in his behavior, joking that the Army had “exorcised” whatever had caused his past behavior.
Now, in 2026, Jang seems ready to indulge in the joke. Popular YouTube host Jaejae from MMTG teased an upcoming livestream with Jang titled:
“Live Exorcism (w. Jang Hyunseung)”
“Send us your stories about pre-exorcism Jang Hyunseung. He will respond live, either with an explanation or an apology.”
The interactive segment invites fans to anonymously submit anecdotes, rumors or complaints about Jang’s past behavior, with the promise that he will address it directly on-air.
Mixed reactions from fans
The teaser quickly divided the online community. Some fans are curious and hopeful:
