Disbanded Third Generation Girl Group Releases 2024 Version of Their Hit Song After Buying Copyright

After initially disbanding, third-generation girl group THIS self-funded their reunion with the 2024 version of their most popular song.

FIESTAR, consisting of Jei, Linzy, Yezi, Hyemi, and Cao Lu, have reunited for their long-awaited reunion after six years, leaving out former member Cheska.

On August 31, quintet Hereinafter released the 2024 version of “You’re Pitiful” through various music platforms, including YouTube.

The song is a remake of their signature track, originally released in 2015 on their first mini-album, “BLACK LABEL”.

To satisfy both Korean and Chinese fans, the team has prepared a Korean and a Chinese version.

Unlike the original track released nine years ago, the 2024 version added a fresh, modern sound, combining elements of UK garage and lazy pop, while still maintaining its signature vague, emotional feel.

In the official music video, the members have prepared a simple yet powerful dance video that showcases their unchanged dancing skills and visuals.

Meanwhile, FIESTAR debuted in 2012, but in 2018, the team officially disbanded after a period of inactivity. During their 12th debut anniversary this year, the group worked on the song, revealing that Cao Lu was the person behind the reason why the team was able to reunite.

In May, he revealed that he had purchased the song’s copyright using his savings. After rewriting the lyrics, the group funded themselves to re-record the track in both Korean and Chinese versions, leading to their reunion.

To celebrate their twelfth debut anniversary, FIESTAR are planning to hold several activities and Cao Lu even mentioned his desire to win a trophy for a music show, something they never did during their more active days.

Since its release, the MV has over 118k views after being uploaded to the YouTube channel, SUPER SOUND Bugs! In the commentary, the quintet has received rave reviews such as:

  • “This is the old K-pop that I missed so much. I sincerely hope this song goes viral and gets more recognition.”
  • “I love this song. FIESTAR! Cao Lu! Fighter! I’m really happy and touched to see them working as a team again.”
  • “The return of FIESTAR and old K-pop groups is just what we needed.”

In addition to K-pop fans, IU, their former labelmate under LOEN Entertainment, applauded the girl group by posting a photo of herself streaming the song. She also wrote, “FIESTAR is back!”

Since their debut, the soloist has been consistent in supporting the group. Hyemi recalled:

“In the past, IU promoted FIESTAR a lot. We were interns together. We became close while living together in a 197m2 apartment of 1.965-2.

IU (also) gave me a luxury bag to celebrate my first paycheck. Even though it wasn’t a lot of money, she gave gifts to everyone around her. She really is a very loyal friend.”
