Famous South Korean actress Kim Ji-mee, widely regarded as the “Elizabeth Taylor of the East”, died at age 85 in the United States, SPOTV News reported on December 10.
The Korean Film Actors Association and the Korean Federation of Film Artists confirmed the news, saying they had begun preparations for a memorial ceremony honoring Kim Ji-mee’s legacy and providing support to her family.
Kim Ji-mee made her debut in 1957 and became a prominent figure in the 1960s and 1970s, considered the golden age of Korean cinema. Her stunning beauty and exceptional acting skills earned her a reputation as one of the most influential actresses of her time.
She died in the United States after suffering from shingles, which reportedly weakened her health in recent years.
Kim Ji-mee’s contribution to Korean cinema is celebrated both for her iconic performances and her role in shaping the industry during a crucial period in its history. Tributes are expected to pour in from fellow actors, directors and fans as the nation mourns his loss.
