K-pop brands and stars donate funds to support Hong Kong fire victims

Several K-pop entertainment companies and artists have pledged large donations to help the victims of Wednesday’s devastating apartment fire in Hong Kong.

The contributions represent a unified response by the South Korean music industry to support rescue operations and relief efforts following the tragedy

SM Entertainment announced a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately $128,000) directed to the Hong Kong Red Cross Society to support firefighting operations, rescue efforts and the provision of relief supplies. Groups affiliated with the company also responded individually.

Women’s group AESPA pledged 500,000 Hong Kong dollars (about $65,000), while their statement underlined the gravity of the situation by expressing deep condolences over the heartbreaking incident, according to allkpop. Boy band Riize has pledged 250,000 Hong Kong dollars (about $32,500) for relief efforts on behalf of the group and its fans.

HYBE Music Group APAC, which operates several K-pop labels including Big Hit Music and Source Music, announced a collective donation of 500 million won (about $336,000) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. The funds will support the families of fire victims through cooperation with local non-profit organizations in Hong Kong.​

The girl group (G)I-DLE contributed 1 million yuan (about $136,000) through the Fosun Foundation, a Shanghai-based nonprofit organization. Member Yuqi shared a message on social media wishing everyone’s safety and well-being, Nate News reported.​

YG Entertainment also came forward with a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately $128,000) through its official Weibo account, expressing its deepest condolences to the victims.

GOT7’s Jackson Wang, originally from Hong Kong, took a different approach by sharing information about local emergency shelters on his social media platform and urging followers to help those in need. Additionally, Wang announced a personal donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (about $128,000) through his clothing brand.

The fire at Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district has left at least 83 confirmed dead and 76 injured, with hundreds more people still missing. The fire, which broke out in an eight-building apartment complex home to around 2,000 families, is Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in recent history. Authorities attribute the rapid spread of the flames to flammable materials used during ongoing renovations at the complex Korea JongAng Daily.​

The 2025 MAMA Awards, a major K-pop awards ceremony planned for Hong Kong, has changed its planned events in response to the tragedy. Organizers decided to cancel the red carpet event and adapt stage productions out of respect for the atmosphere of mourning surrounding the disaster.
