In a touching display of national pride and fan adoration, TWICE Member Tzuyu returned to Taiwan with his group for their first concert in his homeland in over a decade. The event wasn’t just another stop on the group’s tour: it turned into a national celebration, complete with an official welcome from former Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, broadcast on national television.
“These last couple of days, my feed has been full of posts about TWICE,” Tsai Ing-wen wrote on social media, reflecting on the overwhelming buzz surrounding the concerts. “Even though I wasn’t there in person, I felt like I was part of the crowd.”
For many fans, known as ONCE, the concerts were an emotional milestone. Tzuyu, who debuted with TWICE as of 2015, he had not given a solo performance in Taiwan since his debut. His return, marked by cheering fans and sold-out shows in Kaohsiung, was greeted with national joy.
Tsai praised the effort of Mayor Chen Chi-mai and local authorities in managing the massive influx of fans. With more than 350,000 people using the Kaohsiung subway – a record for the year – officials managed to completely disperse the crowds in just 90 minutes, a feat in itself.
The former president continued: “Tzuyu’s comeback is not just about a concert. It symbolizes how many Taiwanese shine in their respective fields, showing the world who we are.”
TWICEThe Taiwan concerts turned out to be more than just a musical success. They have reignited conversations about cultural identity, youth success stories and the global influence of K-pop idols like Tzuyu, who remain deeply rooted in their legacy as they dazzle the world stage.
