On the November 19 episode of MBC FM4U’s Perfect day with Lee Sang Soon, the singer-songwriter opened up by interacting with listeners, offering heartfelt and humorous advice including a rare mention of wife Lee Hyori’s upcoming menopause.
During the Generation Z music segment of the episode, hosted in collaboration with Thomas Cook, the theme was “Take it Easy”. As winter approached, Thomas introduced a playlist of soothing, low-stimulation songs. Lee agreed: “It fits our show perfectly. I think a lot of listeners will start to nod off while enjoying this playlist.” He then played Elliott Smith Say yes as the first selection.
Later, a listener asked a personal question: “My wife is going through menopause and has been very irritable lately. What should a husband do in this situation?”
Lee responded candidly: “Well, I haven’t experienced it personally since my wife hasn’t reached menopause yet, but I’ve heard a lot about it. Apparently, it’s really difficult: the body suddenly becomes hot, then cold… it’s intense.”
He added sincerely: “You just have to go along with it and observe quietly. There’s nothing else you can do.” Then, noticing a listener’s witty comment, he burst out laughing: “Here’s the perfect answer: ‘Stay out of his sight.’ Honestly, it’s brilliant.
Lee continued, “Trying not to be seen might actually be the best way to avoid upsetting her further. Being a husband really isn’t easy.” offer solidarity to the married companions listening.
The conversation then turned to the traditional Korean kimchi-making season. Thomas Cook shared that he would be helping his in-laws harvest radishes and cabbage the next day. Lee added, “Everyone is preparing to make kimchi these days. I recently made it in Jeju with friends.”
He ironically complained about the rising cost of ingredients: “We tried to use quality ingredients, but in the end kimchi became ‘golden kimchi’. Now everything is so expensive.” His relatable complaint caused laughter.
Lee Sang Soon’s natural charm, relatable stories, and lighthearted approach to even sensitive topics like menopause continue to endear him to fans, while offering comfort and a touch of humor to those going through similar life stages.
