A gunman broke into the home of Nana, a 34-year-old actress and former member of K-pop girl group After School, in Guri, a city east of Seoul, early Saturday morning.
The intruder, brandishing a weapon, threatened both Nana and her mother and demanded money from the residence.​
Nana and her mother engaged in a physical fight with the intruder after forcing his way into their home around 6 a.m. on Nov. 15. The suspect had reportedly used a set ladder to climb onto the open porch of the residence. During the altercation, the intruder choked Nana’s mother, causing her to lose consciousness. Nana was injured while trying to escape the dangerous situation. Despite the threat posed by the armed attacker, the two victims managed to subdue him by overpowering and immobilizing him during the struggle.​
After successfully subduing the intruder, Nana and her mother immediately contacted the police. Officers arrived on site and the suspect was arresteda man in his thirties. He was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering injuries in the collision, including a laceration to his chin and jaw. Both Nana and her mother were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Her mother regained consciousness and both women required ongoing care and rest
Authorities charged the suspect with aggravated robbery causing injury. According to police investigations, the man randomly chose Nana’s house for the robbery without knowing that it belonged to a celebrity. He allegedly chose the residence after observing an open door in the luxury villa compound. During the interrogation he declared that he committed the crime because he had no money to live on, did not have a stable job and did not know the occupant of the house.
The Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Court issued an order arrest warrant for the suspect, citing flight risk concerns. Police said they intend to refer him to prosecutors for potential charging once their investigation is complete. According to Nana’s agency, both she and her mother are receiving treatment and require complete rest to recover from their injuries. The incident attracted considerable public attention, with many expressing shock at how Nana and her mother managed to overpower an armed intruder, highlighting their bravery in a life-threatening situation.
