TVing’s first historical drama “Queen Woo” has been unveiled, but it has been rated below expectations. It attracted attention for its stellar cast, including Jeon Jong-seo, Ji Chang-wook, Kim Moo-yeol, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Jung Yu-mi, but after its premiere on August 29, only the bed scenes remain.

“Queen Woo” is a historical action drama in which the sudden death of the king forces the queen to scramble to establish a new king within 24 hours, after being targeted by princes seeking to ascend the throne and five tribes seeking to seize power.

Jeon Jong-seo is one of the main characters. She played the role of Queen Woo-hee of Goguryeo. When the king died, Woo-hee came out of the palace and chose the next king to ascend the throne herself, protecting the position of queen. She is a strong and self-sufficient woman.

In fact, if the drama had focused only on this part, it would have been an epic historical drama centered on women. Unveiled “Queen Woo”, however, has focused on other things other than Woo-hee’s urgent 24 hours. With episodes 1 to 4 coming out, nudity and bed scenes appear in every episode except episode 3.

Actress Jung Yu-mi said of her nude scene at the drama’s press conference, “I felt pressured. But it was an essential scene for the story.” However, people are confused as to why some of the exposed scenes were included.

At the beginning of the first episode, a shaman takes off her clothes while looking at the sky and is excited about the future. Later, the king, Go Nam-moo (played by Ji Chang-wook), returns from war and needs to heal his wounds. He is healed by having sex with three maids to overcome the pain. This scene lasted a whopping 3 minutes and 23 seconds, or 203 seconds.

In the second episode, Jung Yu-mi’s chest is exposed. Woo-soon (played by Junv Yu-mi), the older sister who was jealous of her younger sister Woo-hee’s position as queen, receives a potion from her. Go Nam-moo, who took the drug, dies, and Woo-soon, who took another potion, has sexual intercourse with a woman.

The fourth episode features Woo-hee choosing a prince to marry after the king’s death (a marriage custom where the younger brother continues to marry his sister-in-law on behalf of the older brother). She eventually visits the third prince, Go Bal-ki (played by Lee Soo-hyuk). Woo-hee tries to marry another prince after seeing Go Bal-ki’s violent side, and when he learns about her, he tries to take her over. In the process, he has sex with his wife and then stabs her to death because he heard advice that if he has a wife, he can’t take over the queen.

At the same time, the drama reminds us of “My Dearest”, the MBC historical drama that became a hit last year. “My Dearest” is a well-made story that exquisitely mixes historical story and romance. For many people, “Queen Woo” could have been so well-made without even a single bed scene, just like “My Dearest”, which depicts the toughness of women and the pure love of men.

In the meantime, fans are hoping that “Queen Woo” will be able to convince viewers with quality, non-bed scenes in the remaining six episodes.
