Lee Sung Min in Talks to Replace Song Kang Ho in Upcoming JTBC Drama ‘Insiders’

According to an exclusive report from OSEN on October 16, Lee Sung Min has received an offer to play the character Lee Kang Hee in the new series Professionalswhich is currently being discussed for broadcast on JTBC. The role, originally played by veteran actor Baek Yoon Sik in the 2015 film adaptation, was supposed to be played by Song Kang Ho. However, Song ultimately resigned from the project due to scheduling conflicts with his next project.

Sources revealed that Lee Sung Min had been in contact with the production team regarding a different character, but was later offered the role of Lee Kang Hee following Song’s departure. Negotiations are now underway and his agency has said it is evaluating the offer positively.

Additionally, actor Koo Kyo Hwan reportedly rejected an offer to appear in the drama. He was asked to play Ahn Sang Goo, the political gangster character played by Lee Byung Hun in the film.

The drama Professionals is based on writer Yoon Tae Ho’s unfinished webtoon, which inspired the hit 2015 film Inside men which attracted over 7 million viewers. A decade later, the story is reinvented for television. Initially planned as a two-season project, the series will now be produced as a single 12-episode season, with the cast undergoing major changes.

Set in the political and social context of the 80s and 90s, Professionals will delve into the intertwined stories of power, corruption and ambition. The drama will be directed by Mo Wan Il, known for Foggy AND The world of spouseswhile the screenplay will be written by Lee Ki Chul, who wrote The thieves, MurderAND Escape from Mogadishu. Production will once again be handled by Hive Media Corp, the studio behind the original film.
