In December 2024, Zhao Lusi’s health made a strong recession, leading to accusations that his management company had submitted it to physical and emotional abuses. After a recovery period, he gradually resumed the activities, including the appearances of promotional works and reality shows. His return generated excitement, culminating in the premiere of September 26 of his latest drama, Ambition of love.
The series follows Xu Yan (played by Zhao Lusi), a famous television conductor who goes from humble beginnings to build an enviable career and reputation. He marries the rich businessman Shen Hao Ming (William Chan), but their “perfect” wedding hides deep conflicts. When Xu Yan decides to end the relationship because of his ways of control, Hao Ming realizes his true importance in his life and fights to regain it.
While Zhao Lusi’s performance was praised, the momentum of the drama was obscured by disputes linked to the fan of actor Shiqi, who plays a support role. Fan Shiqi was implicated in the current public suspicion that surrounds the death of actor Yu Menglong, who died after falling from a window. Although he officially ruled an accident, the online campaigns pushed for renewed investigations, with accusations that suggest a foul during a meeting hosted Yu who presumably included Fan Shiqi.
Because of these associations, the appearance of Fan Shiqi has aroused protests, leading to its removal from the official promotional material. His time on the screen inside the drama remains under control, raising questions about how the controversy can affect the receipt of the show despite his promising initial assessments.
