Go Hyun-Jung is making its expected return to television in a role that nobody has seen a well-known killer in the next drama of SBS in the next drama The Mantis: Original Sin (Directed by Byun Young-Joo, written by Lee Young-Jong, produced by Studio S, Merry Christmas, Mega Monster and Boim Film Production). Previewed on September 5, the drama is already generating a hum of “Grand Prize Contender” before a single episode has aired.
The story: decades after the killings
The plot collects years after the notorious “mantis” serial killings that once shocked the nation. The original assassin-Jung Yi-Shin (Go Hyun-Jung)-was captured and sentenced to death. Now, Copycat murders emerge, forcing the detective Cha soo-yeol (Jang Dong-Yoon) in a restless alliance with the person who despises the most: his mother.
The profound emotional complexity of the role required an extraordinary talent and the production team declared, “No one else could embody Jung Yi-Shin so perfectly.”
A cast and director of Potenza
The first photos showed Go Hyun-Jung with a pale and blood-free face, which exuded a silent threat. New images released on August 11 revealed her out of a prison uniform, sitting alone behind the bars, staring voids out of the window – her vacant and acute gaze, as if she hid a dangerous truth. A close -up, capturing his whisper with a chilling glitter in the eyes, has already become viral.
Help Go Hyun-Jung are Jang Dong-Yoon as his son Detective in conflict, Lee El as an acute and charismatic detective Kim Na-Hee, and Jo Sung-ha as Chief Choi Joong-Ho of the Major Crima of the Unit for the South Jeolla police. Director byun Young-Joo (Ardor, Helpless) brings his psychological precision of the brand to this adaptation of a French series, adding new characters and culturally resonant emotional rhythms.
Because spectators cannot wait
Trailers and fixed images aroused an avalanche of comments:
- “Byun Young-Joo and Go Hyun-Jung? No reason not to look at.”
- “That laugh in the trailer gave me chills.”
- “She was born for this kind.”
While the show offers a compelling thrill of murder-mystery, it also dives into complex family, justice and redemption issues:
- Are the killers born or made?
- Can hatred ever turn to forgiveness?
Go Hyun-Jung for performance while Jung Yi-Shin promises to push spectators to confront these dilemmas. The Mantis: Original Sin Friday 5 September at 9:50 pm KST on SBS, destined to be one of the most intense and expected mysterious thrillers of 2025.
