A horrible shooting in Bangkok’s famous market, the Tor Kor market, on July 28th left the death of six people and more wounds, shaking the local community in the center. The assassin, later identified as Noy, a former 61 -year -old dry fruit seller on the market, eventually took his life in front of his wife’s stable.
The sequence of events
According to police reports, Noy started the day by diverting a taxi close to SC Park on Praditmanutham Road, threatening the driver with a 9 mm CZ pistol and forcing him to drive or Tor Kor Market in the Chatuchak district. During the journey, according to what reported, he repeated the intention of “shooting the guards”.
Upon arrival around noon, Noy entered through the market gate 1 and immediately opened fire on three safety guards, killing them on the spot. He then chased another guard with whom he had a longtime feud dating back to 2019-2020, deriving from the suspicions that the man had deliberately scratched his beloved car. That individual was also killed with six consecutive shots.
Continuing his fury, Noy recharged and fired the staff and additional market suppliers, injuring a female seller and injuring two more. Not being able to identify his wife in the middle of chaos, the suspicion returned to his former stable and committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple.
Possible reason
The general leader of the Bangkok police, Siam Boonsom, confirmed that the reason seems to be rooted in personal complaints. Noy had long believed that the safety guards had resentment against him and had vandalized his car. Despite the previous complaints and a revision of the CCTV movies that confirm the damage to vehicles, the management of the market did not find any definitive test of those who were responsible.
His legal personal weapon contained 10 rounds; A bullet remained not injured. The authorities excluded terrorism or concerns for national security in case. The sellers and the witnesses of the market expressed disbelief. A dry fish seller recalled: “He used to shop here and he was always educated. None of us had imagined being able to something like that.”
Another witness described panic: “He entered calmly, dressed in black with a cap and a backpack, with a gun in his hand. After the first shots, people just spread in fear.” Due to the severity of the accident, or the management of the Tor Kor market temporarily closed the operations on July 29 to allow the police to continue their investigations, collect evidence and provide support to traumatized victims and suppliers.
